ทั้งนี้ที่ประชุมมีข้อสรุปว่า จะขยายผลความตกลงริเริ่มเชียงใหม่ในการจัดตั้งกองทุนสำรองระหว่างประเทศร่วมกันในภูมิภาคอาเซียน (Currency Swap) จากเดิม 80,000 ล้านเหรียญสหรัฐ เป็น 120,000 ล้านเหรียญสหรัฐ หรือประมาณ 4.2 ล้านล้านบาท เบื้องต้นคาดว่า 3 ประเทศนอกกลุ่มอาเซียน คือจีน เกาหลีใต้ และญี่ปุ่น จะลงเงินสำรองร้อยละ 80 ของวงเงิน รวม หรือ 9.6 หมื่นล้านเหรียญสหรัฐ และกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียนอีกร้อยละ 20 หรือ 2.4 หมื่นล้านเหรียญสหรัฐ ซึ่งกองทุนดังกล่าวจะมีรูปแบบคล้ายกองทุนการเงินระหว่างประเทศ (International Monetary Fund : IMF) แต่ก็ไม่ใช่คู่แข่งของ IMF แต่จะเป็นเพียงทางเลือกหนึ่งของเอเชียที่จะมีกองทุนระหว่างประเทศเป็นของตนเอง โดยประเทศจีน เกาหลีใต้ และญี่ปุ่น ลงเงินรวมกันประมาณร้อยละ 80 ส่วนอีกร้อยละ 20 ที่เหลือกลุ่มประเทศอาเซียน 10 ประเทศ จะลงทุนร่วมกัน ขณะที่ไทย สิงคโปร์ มาเลเซีย ฟิลิปปินส์ และอินโดนีเซีย จะต้องใส่เงินลงทุนมากกว่าอีก 5 ประเทศ คือ บรูไน พม่า ลาว เวียดนาม และกัมพูชา เนื่องจากมีขนาดเศรษฐกิจที่ใหญ่กว่า โดยคาดว่าจะสามารถเสนอเรื่องเข้าสู่การพิจารณารัฐมนตรีคลังอาเซียน+3 วาระปกติที่บาหลี ประเทศอินโดนีเซีย ในเดือนพฤษภาคม พ.ศ.2552
