ประวัติความเป็นมา
เชื่อกันว่ากลองยาวได้แบบอย่างมาจากพม่าในสมัยกรุงธนบุรีหรือต้นกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์รัตนโกสินทร์สมัยที่ไทยกับพม่ากำลังทำสงครามกัน เวลาพักรบ พวกทหารพม่าก็เล่น "กลองยาว" กันสนุกสนาน พวกชาวไทยได้เห็นก็จำแบบอย่างมาเล่นบ้าง แต่บางท่านก็เล่าว่า กลองยาวของพม่าแบบนี้ มีชาวพม่าพวกหนึ่งนำเข้ามาเล่นในงานที่มีกระบวนแห่ เช่นบวชนาคทอดกฐิน เป็นต้น และนิยมเล่นกันเป็นที่รื่นเริง สนุกสนานในเทศกาลสงกรานต์และเล่นกันแพร่หลายไปแทบทุกหัวบ้านหัวเมือง วงหนึ่งๆ จะใช้กลองยาวหลายลูกก็ได้ เครื่องดนตรีที่ใช้บรรเลงร่วม มีฉิ่ง,ฉาบเล็ก,กรับ,โหม่งเรียกการเล่นชนิดนี้ว่า "เถิดเทิง" หรือ "เทิงกลองยาว" ที่เรียกเช่นนี้เข้าใจว่า เรียกตามเสียงกลองที่ตีและตามรูปลักษณะกลองยาว
ในส่วนของตำบลหนองบัว มีการถ่ายทอดการแสดงกลองยาวโดยนายสุชาติ ชัยเจริญ เป็นผู้ก่อตั้งคณะกลองยาวมากว่า 40 ปี ปัจจุบันคณะกลองยาวของท่านยังทำการแสดงในงานรื่นเริงต่างๆ และมีการสืบทอดให้กับรุ่นลูกและหลานอีกด้วย
