นายวิษณุ เครืองาม รองนายกรัฐมนตรีฝ่ายกฎหมาย กล่าวภายหลังการประชุมคณะกรรมการพัฒนาระบบการติดตามคนหายและการพิสูจน์ศพนิรนาม (ค.พ.ศ.) ว่า ที่ประชุมมีมติในการตั้งคณะกรรมการเพื่อดำเนินการใน 2 ส่วน คือ การติดตามบุคคลสูญหาย ซึ่งเป็นผู้ที่หายไปโดยไม่มีร่องรอยภายใน 24 ชั่วโมง จากเดิมที่มีการแจ้งความและต่างคนต่างเก็บข้อมูลนั้น จากนี้จะต้องมีการแจ้งข้อมูลผู้เสียหายไปยังสถาบันนิติวิทยาศาสตร์ กระทรวงยุติธรรม เช่นเดียวกับกรณีการพบศพนิรนามก็จะต้องแจ้งไปยังสถาบันนิติวิทยาศาสตร์ด้วย เพื่อเป็นศูนย์ประสานงานเชื่อมโยงข้อมูลทั่วประเทศให้มีความชัดเจนและช่วยติดตาม สืบหาร่วมกันได้ รวมทั้งการประสานข้อมูลต่างประเทศด้วย ทั้งนี้ จะมีการตั้งศูนย์ในแต่ละภาค เช่น ภาคใต้ มีศูนย์ที่มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานคริทร์ ภาคเหนือที่มหาวิทยาลัยเชียงใหม่ หรือภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือที่มหาวิทยาลัยขอนแก่น เป็นต้น
