Figure 2.9 shows that risk impacts not only on the businesses associated with the<br>tourism industry, but on the industry as a whole. The risks impact, among other<br>things, on decision making, determinants (a factor that causes or influences<br>something), on the image, productivity and sustainability within the industry and also<br>on the individual businesses. The risks facing the tourist, such as natural disasters,<br>political, health and safety, economic, social and technological risks are also<br>included as they, too, influence the industry. The impact can be either positive or<br>negative and therefore might be exploited beneficially or perhaps minimised if<br>adverse, by choosing the best strategy through the effective use of a suitably<br>designed risk management model.
