วันเกษตรแห่งชาติ ตรงกับวันที่ 2 กุมภาพันธ์ของทุกปี

ต่อมารัฐบาลได้เล็งเห็นความสำคัญของการจัดงานลักษณะนี้ จึงมีมติให้ กระทรวงเกษตรและสหกรณ์ ร่วมกับ มหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ จัดงานวันเกษตรแห่งชาติแห่งชาติขึ้น ตั้งแต่วันที่ 3-4 มกราคม พ.ศ.2491 โดยรัฐบาลให้การสนับสนุนด้านงบประมาณ ซึ่งส่วนราชการทั้งสองได้ร่วมกันจัดติดต่อกันเรื่อยมา เป็นประจำทุกปี ณ บริเวณมหาวิทยาลัยเกษตรศาสตร์ บางเขน
วัตถุประสงค์ ของการจัดงานถือหลักการเดิมของการจัดงานนิทรรศการครั้งแรก คือการจัดแสดงต่างๆ จะเป็นทางหนึ่งที่ชักนำปลุกใจอาณาประชาราษฎร์ ให้ประกอบการเพาะปลุก เลี้ยงสัตว์ และค้าขายให้เจริญทันสมัย โดยมีจุดประสงค์จะให้ประชาชนทั่วไปรวมทั้งเกษตรกร ได้เรียนรู้พัฒนาการวิชาการใหม่ๆ และเน้นนโยบายที่จะให้เกษตรทุกภาคได้รับความก้าวหน้า และพัฒนาการวิชาการการเกษตรใหม่ๆ และเน้นนโยบายที่จะให้เกษตรทุกภาคได้รับทราบความก้าวหน้า และพัฒนาการทางด้านการเกษตรอย่างทั่วถึงทั้งประเทศ นอกจากนั้นยังเน้นให้เกษตรที่ทำงานหนักมาทั้งปีได้มีโอกาสพักผ่อนหย่อนใจและหาความสำราญในการเที่ยวงาน
