• หลอดเลือดฝอยผนังต่อเนื่อง (continuous capillary) : ที่ผนังของหลอดเลือดฝอยชนิดนี้จะไม่มีช่องว่างอยู่เนื่องจากเซลล์เรียงเสมอกันเรียบร้อย พบได้ที่กล้ามเนื้อลายและในระบบประสาท
• หลอดเลือดฝอยผนังมีรู (fenestrated capillary) : ผนังของหลอดเลือดฝอยชนิดนี้จะมีรูพรุน จึงพบได้ที่ไต และต่อมไร้ท่อ
• หลอดเลือดฝอยผนังไม่ต่อเนื่อง (discontinuous capillary) : ผนังของหลอดเลือดฝอยชนิดนี้จะไม่มีรู เพียงแต่ต่อกันไม่สนิทเหมือนหลอดเลือดฝอยชนิดแรก สามารถพบได้ที่อวัยวะต่างๆเช่น ตับ, ม้าม รวมทั้งไขกระดูก เป็นต้น
