ผลกระทบจากภาวะโลกร้อน ทำให้ทั่วโลกตื่นตัวในการดำเนินงานเพื่อลดปริมาณการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจก จึงมีการให้ความสนใจในการประเมินปริมาณการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกที่เกิดจากกิจกรรมการดำเนินงานขององค์กร ที่เรียกว่า การประเมินคาร์บอนฟุตพริ้นท์ขององค์กร (Carbon Footprint for Organization: CFO) ซึ่งเป็นแนวทางในการแสดงข้อมูลการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกจากกิจกรรมการดำเนินงานขององค์กร เพื่อให้มีการดำเนินการและหาแนวทางในการลดผลกระทบนี้ ดังนั้นโครงการวิจัยนี้จึงได้ศึกษาวิธีการประเมินปริมาณการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกขององค์กร ของคณะสิ่งแวดล้อมและทรัพยากรศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยมหิดล โดยการรวบรวมข้อมูลการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกขององค์กร ในรูปบัญชีรายการก๊าซเรือนกระจก โดยขอบเขตในการศึกษานี้ใช้ข้อมูลตั้งแต่เดือนตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2555 ถึงเดือนกันยายน พ.ศ. 2556 รวมเป็นระยะเวลา 1 ปี พบว่ามีปริมาณการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจก ทั้งหมด 799,144.65 kg CO2eq สามารถนำมาแสดงผลแยกตามขอบเขตกิจกรรมภายในองค์กร โดยแบ่งเป็นขอบเขตที่ 1 การปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกโดยตรงขององค์กร คิดเป็นร้อยละ 29.73 แบ่งเป็น การปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกที่เกิดขึ้นจากการรั่วไหลและอื่นๆ มีค่า 190,288.53 kg CO2eq, การปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกที่เกิดขึ้นจากการเผาไหม้อยู่กับที่ มีปริมาณการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกเท่ากับ 30,903.82 kg CO2eq และการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกที่เกิดขึ้นจากการเผาไหม้ที่มีการเคลื่อนที่ มีค่า 16,414.47 kg CO2eq ขอบเขตที่ 2 การปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกทางอ้อมจากการใช้พลังงาน มีปริมาณการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกมากที่สุดถึง 547,284.65 kg CO2eq คิดเป็นร้อยละ 68.49 ซึ่งมาจากปริมาณการใช้ไฟฟ้าขององค์กร ในขณะที่ และขอบเขตที่ 3 การปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกทางอ้อมอื่นๆ มีค่า 14253.18 kg CO2eq คิดเป็นร้อยละ 1.78 เมื่อนำมาเปรียบเทียบเป็นการปล่อยก๊าซเรือนกระจกขององค์กรต่อหน่วยประชากรภายในคณะสิ่งแวดล้อมฯ จำนวน 713 คน คิดเป็น 1,120.82 kg CO2eq ต่อคนต่อปี หรือ 1.12 ton CO2eq ต่อคนต่อปี
