หลังจากพยายามแก้ไขปัญหานี้มาหลายปี ด้วยหลายวิธีและแนวทาง ในที่สุดเมื่อ 23 พฤศจิกายน 2547 ที่ผ่านมา น.พ.สุรพงษ์ สืบวงศ์ลี รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงไอซีทีขณะนั้นก็สามารถผลักดันจนเป็นรูปธรรมได้ เมื่อคณะรัฐมนตรีมีมติเห็นชอบ 4 มาตรการควบคุมเกมส์ออนไลน์และอินเทอร์เน็ต อันได้แก่
1. การจำกัดชั่วโมงการเล่นเกมส์ของเยาวชนที่อายุต่ำกว่า 18 ปี ให้ไม่เกินวันละ 3 ชั่วโมง
2. ห้ามการเล่นพนัน ชิงโชค หรือซื้อขายอุปกรณ์
3. ออกระเบียบเกี่ยวกับการจดทะเบียนร้านอินเทอร์เน็ต เพื่อกำกับดูแลการให้บริการ
4 .รณรงค์ให้เยาวชน รวมทั้งผู้ปกครองทราบถึงโทษของการเล่นเกมส์ติดต่อกันเป็นเวลานาน
อย่างไรก็ตาม มาตรการที่ออกมายังคงเป็นที่สนใจและกล่าวถึงของคนในสังคม เพราะทราบกันดีว่า ขณะนี้บริการร้านอินเทอร์เน็ตได้ขยายและกระจายตัวไปตามพื้นที่ต่างๆของเมืองโดยเฉพาะในประเด็นที่ว่า ห้ามเด็กอายุต่ำกว่า 18 ปี เล่นเกมส์เกินวันละ 3 ชั่วโมง

การหาข้อมูลความรู้ข่าวสารต่างๆ แต่หากเราใช้ในทางที่ผิด เช่น ใช้เพื่อเข้าสังคมออนไลน์หรือเล่นเกมออนไลน์โดยไม่แบ่งเวลาให้เหมาะสม ก็จะทำให้กลายเป็นปัญหาติดอินเทอร์เน็ตและเกมซึ่งในปัจจุบันพบมากในเด็กและเยาวชน
