สำนักหอสมุด มหาวิทยาลัยกรุงเทพเดิมมีชื่อเรียกว่า ห้องสมุดวิทยาลัยไทยเทคนิคเริ่มก่อตั้งขึ้นพร้อมกับการก่อตั้งวิทยาลัยไทยเทคนิคในปี พ.ศ. 2505 ต่อมาเมื่อมีการเปลี่ยนชื่อสถาบันจากวิทยาลัยไทยเทคนิค เป็นวิทยาลัยกรุงเทพ ห้องสมุดจึงได้เปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น แผนกห้องสมุดวิทยาลัยกรุงเทพ
ปี พ.ศ. 2543 มหาวิทยาลัยได้เริ่มทำการก่อสร้างอาคารหอสมุด ณ วิทยาเขตรังสิต
ภายใต้วัตถุประสงค์ที่ต้องการให้เป็นศูนย์บริการทางเทคโนโลยีการศึกษาและพัฒนาไปสู่การให้บริการห้องสมุดอิเล็กทรอนิกส์โดยปรับเปลี่ยนห้องสมุดมาเป็นศูนย์การเรียนรู้และการค้นคว้าวิจัย.ในวันที่ 16 มกราคม ปี พ.ศ. 2545 สำนักหอสมุดกลางเริ่มเปิดให้บริการ ณ อาคารหอสมุด..


อาคารหอสมุดเป็นที่ตั้งของ หอเกียรติคุณ (Hall of Recognition) โดยตั้งอยู่ชั้น 2 ซึ่งจัดตั้งขึ้นเพื่อรำลึกถึงบุคคลสำคัญและผู้มีพระคุณของมหาวิทยาลัยกรุงเทพ ได้แก่ ผู้อุปถัมภ์ ผู้ก่อตั้ง อดีตนายกสภามหาวิทยาลัย นายกสภามหาวิทยาลัย อธิการบดีกิตติคุณก่อตั้ง อธิการบดีกิตติคุณ อธิการบดี และผู้มีอุปการคุณ อีกทั้งยังเป็นสถานที่รวบรวมของที่ระลึก ภาพถ่าย ภาพวาด รูปปั้นของบุคคลสำคัญ และบริเวณชั้น 3 เป็นที่ตั้งของหอประวัติมหาวิทยาลัยกรุงเทพ ซึ่งจัดตั้งขึ้นเนื่องในโอกาสครบรอบ 40 ปี ในปี พ.ศ. 2545 เพื่อเป็นแหล่งรวบรวมและอนุรักษ์ทรัพยากร ของที่ระลึก สื่อความรู้และเอกสารต่าง ๆ ที่สามารถให้ข้อมูลในเรื่องที่มีคุณค่าเกี่ยวกับประวัติศาสตร์และพัฒนาการของมหาวิทยาลัยกรุงเทพ
