กีฬาเเฮนด์บอลเป็นกีฬาที่นิยมเล่นในประเทศทางแถบยุโรปและอเมริกา เนื่องจากเป็นกีฬาที่เล่นสนุกเเละมีการดัดเเปลงวิธีการเล่นโดยอาศัยทักษะพื้นฐานของการเล่นฟุตบอลเเละบาสเกตบอล
 
 
กีฬาแฮนด์บอลได้เริ่มต้นมาจากประเทศเยอรมัน (GERMAN) ในราวศตวรรษที่ 19 โดยครูสอนพลศึกษาชื่อ ดอนเเรด คอช (Donrad Koch) ซึ่งได้ดัดเเปลงวิธีการเล่นอาศัยทักษะพื้นฐานจากการเล่นฟุตบอลเเละบาสเกตบอล ระยะเเรกเรียกชื่อกีฬาแฮนด์บอลแตกต่างกันเช่น ฮอกกี้มือ โปโลบก เเละมีจำนวนผู้เล่นทีมละ 11 คนเหมือนฟุตบอล
