รายงานวิจัยเรื่องสถิติคนหายในประเทศไทยในรอบ 6 ปี (2553 - 2558)มีวัตถุประสงค์ เพื่อศึกษาสาเหตุการหายตัวไปของคน โดยศึกษาสาเหตุการหายตัวไป จากศูนย์ข้อมูลคนหาย มูลนิธิกระจกเงา ซึ่งผลวิจัยปรากฏ ว่าสาเหตุส่วนใหญ่เกิดจากปัญหาครอบครัว จึงทำให้มีการหนีออกจากบ้านแล้วหายตัวไป หรือเรียกว่า การหายตัวไปแบบสมัครใจ ซึ่งมีจำนวนคนหายตัวไปมากที่สุด จำนวนคนหายตัวไปทั้งหมด 2745 คน แบ่งเป็นผู้ชายจำนวน1 159 คน ผู้หญิงจำนวน 1586 คน การสำรวจข้อมูลจากศูนย์ข้อมูลคนหาย มูลนิธิกระจกเงา มีการเก็บข้อมูลสาเหตุของคนหายข้อมูลที่เป็นตัวเลข โดยจะนำมาหาค่าร้อยละและค่าเฉลี่ยแยกสาเหตุของการหายตัวไป คือ การหายตัวไปแบบสมัครใจ, แย่งความปกครองบุตร, เด็กพลัดหลง, ถูกลักพาตัว,โรคสมองเสื่อม, อุบัติเหตุ, ขาดการติดต่อ และสาเหตุอื่นๆ
