การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อศึกษาการกระจายตัวของแหล่งท่องเที่ยวและสถานประกอบการโรงแรมและที่พักตากอากาศตามแนวถนนเฉลิมบูรพาชลทิต เริ่มตั้งแต่บริเวณแหลมแม่พิมพ์ อำเภอแกลง จังหวัดระยอง ไปจนถึงเกาะเปริด อำเภอแหลมสิงห์ จังหวัดจันทบุรี ระยะทางประมาณ 118 กิโลเมตร โดยใช้ตำแหน่งที่ตั้งของแหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่ได้จากการสำรวจเก็บข้อมูล มาจัดกลุ่มโดยมีเงื่อนไข คือ แหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่อยู่ใกล้กันในระยะ 3 กิโลเมตร กำหนดให้เป็นกลุ่มเดียวกัน และทำการซ้อนทับข้อมูล (Overlay) กับตำแหน่งที่ตั้งของสถานประกอบการฯ นอกจากนั้นยังทำการศึกษาผลกระทบด้านเศรษฐกิจและสังคมของชุมชนที่ตั้งอยู่สองข้างทางของถนนเฉลิมบูรพาชลทิต โดยใช้แบบสอบถามเชิงคุณภาพ เป็นเครื่องมือในการสำรวจรวบรวมข้อมูล
