• ICT tester sessions, which are tailored to specific groups, such as the elderly or school children (sessions may be provided outside of reg-ularly scheduled library hours); and

• free access to the Internet and computer facilities, as well as wire-less access from laptops.

Some libraries also offer adaptive technologies to allow people with disabilities to use ICTs. To date, aggregate data about the provi-sion of digital services has been collated for all 22 local authorities in Wales (Society of Chief Librarians in Wales, 2010). A recent report about the role of public libraries in promoting digital services in En-gland (Museum, Libraries, and Archives Council, 2010) drew atten-tion to the need to collate information about the extent of digital provision, the potential user demand for such services, and the nature of digital participation at the individual library level. However, no published research has explored detailed variations in accessibility to digital services in relation to potential population demand for dig-ital services provided by public libraries in the UK using the types of techniques advocated in the present study.
