ปัจจุบันขยะที่เกิดขึ้นในบริเวณรอบ ๆ และภายในหอพัก เป็นปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นมานาน ในเวลาเคลื่อนย้ายอาจจะมีขยะตกหล่นตามบริเวณพื้นและรอบๆบริเวณที่นำไปทิ้งทำให้สกปรกทำให้งานประจำของแม่บ้านประจำหอพักหนักขึ้นไปอีก และถังขยะปกติก็ไม่สะดวกในการนำขยะไปทิ้งในจุดทิ้งขยะ ทำให้สมาชิกในกลุ่มได้คิดการเคลื่อนที่อย่างง่ายของถังขยะ และเมื่อเราทิ้งขยะปัญหาที่เกิดขึ้นตามมาคือ บริเวณร่างกายจะเลอะขยะ ทำให้คิดวิธีการทิ้งขยะโดยไม่ให้เลอะเปรอะเปื้อนบริเวณร่างกาย เมื่อปัญหาหลายๆอย่างรวมกัน ถังขยะที่สามารถเคลื่อนที่ได้ง่ายและสามารถทิ้งขยะโดยไม่เลอะบริเวณร่างกาย และไม่ตกหล่นระหว่างทาง ถังขยะอัตโนมัติจึงเป็นคำตอบของปัญหานี้

ประชาชนทั่วไปเสี่ยงต่ออันตรายจากการเป็นโรคต่าง ๆ เช่น โรคมะเร็ง และ โรคผิดปกติทางพันธุกรรมเป็นต้น
2.1.1 ความหมายของขยะ และการแบ่งประเภท
พจนานุกรมฉบับราชบัณฑิตสถาน ได้ให้คำจำกัดความของคำว่า “มูลฝอย” หมายถึง เศษ
สิ่งของที่ทิ้งแล้ว หยาก เยื่อ และคำว่า “ขยะ” หมายถึง หยาก เยื่อมูลฝอย จะเห็นว่าคำทั้งสองคำนี้มี

1.) ขยะทั่วไป หมายถึง ขยะมูลฝอยที่มีอันตรายน้อย ได้แก่ พวกเศษอาหาร
เศษกระดาษ เศษผ้า พลาสติก เศษหญ้า และใบไม้ ฯลฯ
2.) ขยะอันตราย เป็นขยะที่มีภัยต่อคนและสิ่งแวดล้อม อาจมีสารพิษ ติดไฟ
หรือระเบิดง่าย ปนเปื้อนเชื้อโรค เช่น ไฟแช็กแก๊ส กระป๋องสเปรย์ ถ่านไฟฉาย แบตเตอรี่ หรืออาจ

2.จำแนกตามลักษณะของขยะ มี 2 ประเภท คือ
