เด็กเร่ร่อนทุกคนไม่ได้มีความตั้งใจ หรือความพยายามว่า จะออกมาเป็นเด็กเร่ร่อน แต่เด็กได้รับความกดดันทั้งจากตัวเด็กเอง ครอบครัว ชุมชน สังคม ที่อยู่รอบ ๆ ตัวเด็ก ในอดีตเป็นอย่างไร ปัจจุบันปัญหาดังกล่าวก็ยังคงอยู่ ทั้งเรื่อง ความเชื่อ วัฒนธรรม เศรษฐกิจ และล่าสุด ยังมีแรงดึงเด็กให้ออกมาจากครอบครัวมาสู่ถนนเพิ่มมากขึ้น ทั้งที่เกิดจากเทคโนโลยี และ สังคมที่เปลี่ยนไป เด็กบางคน มีปัญหาภายในครอบครัวอยู่แล้ว และเมื่อได้ออกมาสู่สังคมภายนอกที่มีแรงดึงที่รุนแรง เด็กที่อ่อนแอและไม่มีแรงฉุดรั้งจากครอบครัวอยู่แล้ว ก็ทำให้เด็กหลุดออกมาสู่สังคมข้างถนนได้เร็วมากขึ้น ปัญหาเด็กเร่ร่อนเป็นปัญหาที่มีมานาน และมีแนวโน้มที่จะทวีความรุนแรงมากขึ้นตามลำดับ เป็นปัญหาสังคมที่เชื่อมโยงกับปัญหาอื่น ๆ การศึกษาวิถีชีวิตของเด็กเร่ร่อน ทุกแง่มุมจะทำให้รัฐและสังคมตระหนักถึงความสำคัญของปัญหาและหันมาสนใจแก้ ปัญหาอย่างรีบด่วนและจริงจังมากกว่าเดิม
การศึกษาค้นคว้าครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ (1) เพื่อหาสาเหตุของปัญหาของเด็กเร่ร่อนที่มีในประเทศไทย ว่าเกิดมาจากปัญหาทางด้านใด (2) เพื่อสำรวจผลกระทบจากปัญหาเด็กเร่ร่อนที่มีต่อสังคมไทย (3) เพื่อหาแนวทางการป้องกันเพื่อแก้ไขปัญหาหรือลดปัญหาให้น้อยลง
การศึกษาครั้งนี้ได้มีการศึกษาค้นคว้าจากหนังสือ และสื่อต่างๆ ตลอดจนการสอบถามข้อมูลจากผู้ที่มีความรู้ จนทำให้สามารถนำไปสู่การหาแนวทางในการแก้ไขปัญหาเพื่อช่วยลดต้นเหตุของปัญหาได้
