การจัดทำโครงงานในครั้งนี้ มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ ค้นคว้าหาวิธีการป้องกันและลดอัตราการเกิดปฏิกิริยากัดกร่อนของเหล็กที่ทำให้เกิดสนิม โดยใช้วัสดุที่สามารถหาได้ไม่ยาก พบได้ทั่วไปตามท้องตลาดหรือตามท้องถิ่น และเป็นวัสดุธรรมชาติ เช่น พืชผัก หรือ ผลิตภัณฑ์จากสัตว์ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นไข่ใก่ หรือ นม โดยในการทดลองครั้งนี้เราเลือกมา 3 ชนิด คือ มะเขือเทศ กากกาแฟ และจุลินทรีย์ในยาคูลย์ มีวิธีการทดลองคือทำความสะอาดเหล็กและขัดให้เรียบร้อยพร้อมชั่งน้ำหนัก จากนั้นผสมสารโซเดียมคลอไรด์กับสารยับยั้ง และนำเหล็กไปจุ่มในสารที่ผสมกันในเวลา 24 ชั่วโมง เมื่อครบกำหนดทำความสะอาดเหล็กและชั่งน้ำหนักอีกครั้งเพื่อเปรียบเทียบน้ำหนักก่อนหลังการทดลอง
