ทุกสถานศึกษาในประเทศไทย ตั้งแต่ระดับอนุบาล ประถม มัธยมและระดับอุดมศึกษา ยกเว้นที่สูงไปกว่านั้น จะมีกิจกรรมที่สำคัญ ก่อนการเริ่มเรียนในแต่ละวัน นั้นคือ การร่วมกิจกรรม เข้าแถวหน้าเสาธงในตอนเช้าก่อนเข้าเรียน เพราะนอกจากจะเป็นระเบียบของกระทรวงศึกษาธิการแล้ว ยังเป็นการเตรียมความพร้อมของคุณครู ตลอดจนนักเรียน นักศึกษา
กิจกรรมที่สำคัญคือ กิจกรรมที่เกี่ยวกับชาติ ศาสนาและพระมหากษัตริย์ ในส่วนหน่วยงานของราชการ จะมีเสาธงและธงไตรรงค์ที่หน้าสำนักงาน การชักธงชาติขึ้นสู่ยอดเสาทุกเช้า เวลา 8.00 น. และชักธงลงจากยอดเสา เวลา 18.00 น. ทางการจะเปิดเพลงชาติจากสถานีวิทยุกรมประชาสัมพันธ์กรุงเทพมหานคร กิจกรรมดังกล่าวกระทำเป็นปกติทุกวัน ไม่เว้นวันหยุดราชการ บางหน่วยงานเช่น ตำรวจและทหารจะจัดบุคคลเข้าแถวเพื่อเคารพธงชาติ จำนวนมากหรือน้อยตามสมควร บางหน่วยงานอาจไม่สะดวก จึงมอบหน้าที่ให้กับยามรักษาการณ์ หรือเจ้าหน้าที่ที่รับผิดชอบแต่ละวันเตรียมชักธงชาติขึ้นและลง กิจกรรมดังกล่าวขาดไม่ได้ ถือเป็นหน้าที่ที่ต้องรับผิดชอบอย่างสูง หัวหน้าส่วนราชการแต่ละหน่วยงาน จะออกคำสั่งแต่งตั้งบุคคลากรเป็นรายเดือน
เวลา 8.00 น. เป็นเวลาเริ่มปฏิบัติงานของข้าราชการไทย และเป็นเวลาชักธงชาติขึ้นสู่ยอดเสา ส่วนเวลา 18.00 น. เป็นเวลาชักธงลงจากยอดเสา ซึ่งกิจกรรมดังกล่าว จะหมุนเวียนอย่างนี้ตลอดไป
สถานศึกษาทุกแห่ง จะทำกิจกรรมดังกล่าวอย่างมีระบบและมีระเบียบ ตามแนวปฏิบัติของสถานศึกษานั้นๆ เนื่องจากระบบการเรียนการสอนที่แตกต่างกัน เช่น บางสถานศึกษาอาจกำหนด กิจกรรมเฉพาะร้องเพลงชาติ นำสวดมนต์ แจ้งข่าวสารให้กับนักเรียนนักศึกษาทราบแต่ละวัน เมื่อเสร็จภารกิจ นักเรียน นักศึกษาแยกเข้าห้องเรียน ถ้าเป็นสถานศึกษาอนุบาลหรือประถมศึกษาจะมีห้องเรียนประจำ
