สังคมไทยปัจจุบันเน้นความสำคัญของภาคเศรษฐกิจและสังคม ซึ่งเป็นเศรษฐกิจแบบทุนนิยมหรือระบบตลาดได้ครอบงำเศรษฐกิจโลก และภายใต้ระบบตลาดเศรษฐกิจทุนนิยมดังกล่าว ได้ทำให้เกิดการละเมิดสิทธิมนุษยชนที่มาพร้อมกับเศรษฐกิจในระบบตลาด ภายใต้เงื่อนไขของกติการะหว่างประเทศว่าด้วยเรื่องเศรษฐกิจ ทำให้เกิดการละเมิดสิทธิมนุษยชนขึ้นโดยในที่นี้จะขอกล่าวถึงสิทธิมนุษยชนซึ่งเป็นผลมาจากการพยายามก้าวไปสู่ความทันสมัย รัฐบาลได้ใช้กฎหมายโดยไม่คำนึงถึงผลกระทบที่จะเกิดกับชุมชน เห็นได้จากการจัดการทรัพยากรในภาคอีสาน เช่น การประกาศเขตวนอุทยานกับที่ดินทำกินของชาวบ้าน การให้สัมปทานป่าแก่กลุ่มอิทธิพลภายนอกชุมชน ด้วยการส่งเสริมการปลูกพืชพาณิชย์และการพัฒนาอุตสาหกรรม (เสน่ห์ จามริก, 2546:35-40)
