งานวิจัยนี้เป็นการนำการจัดการและการบริหารโซ่อุปทานมาประยุกต์ใช้กับการพัฒนาผู้ส่งมอบ โดยได้ศึกษากับโรงงานตัวอย่างซึ่งเป็นผู้ผลิตชิ้นส่วนรถยนต์ ซึ่งใช้ระบบลีนในการบริหารการผลิตภายในองค์กร โดยคำนึงถึงการผลิตสินค้าแบบทันเวลาพอดี ปัจจุบันโรงงานตัวอย่างมีการผลิตชิ้นส่วนรถยนต์ให้กับหลายลูกค้า จึงทำให้มีผู้ส่งมอบชิ้นส่วนเป็นจำนวนมาก ซึ่งผู้ส่งมอบ แต่ละรายก็มีความแตกต่างกัน ทั้งในส่วนของวัฒนธรรมองค์กรเองหรือการบริการ ซึ่งก่อให้เกิดปัญหากับบริษัทหลายๆอย่าง เช่น ผู้ส่งมอบส่งสินค้าไม่ทันตามเวลาที่กำหนด ส่งสินค้าไม่ตรงตามคำสั่งซื้อ ส่งสินค้ามามากกว่าหรือน้อยกว่าที่สั่งซื้อ หรือระบุราคาในเอกสารไม่ถูกตาม คำสั่งซื้อ ไม่มีการนำเอกสารมาส่งพร้อมสินค้า ทำให้บริษัทมีความยุ่งยากในการบริหารจัดการ ทำให้เสียเวลาและเสียค่าใช้จ่าย ไม่สามารถผลิตสินค้าที่ต้องการ ในเวลาที่ต้องการ ในปริมาณที่ต้องการได้ ส่งผลให้ส่งสินค้าไม่ทันตามกำหนด จึงได้มีการจัดทำโครงการพัฒนาเพื่อส่งมอบขึ้น มีการให้ความรู้ ให้คำปรึกษา และมีการตรวจประเมินผู้ส่งมอบด้านลีนเพื่อให้สอดคล้องกับความต้องการของโรงงานตัวอย่าง
ผลการศึกษาพบว่า การนำหลักการด้านลีนมาประยุกต์ใช้กับพัฒนาผู้ส่งมอบสามารถช่วยเพิ่มประสิทธิภาพการส่งมอบได้ร้อยละ a และในการตรวจประเมินด้านลีน ผู้ส่งมอบมีคะแนนการตรวจประเมินเพิ่มขึ้นดังนี้ ผู้ส่งมอบระดับที่ 1 ร้อยละ x, ผู้ส่งมอบระดับที่ 2 ร้อยละy และ ผู้ส่งมอบระดับที่ 3 ร้อยละz อย่างมีนัยสำคัญ
