วัดใหญ่สว่างอารมณ์ สร้างขึ้นเมื่อ พ.ศ. 1963 สร้างขึ้นในสมัยสุโขทัย มีนามเดิมว่า "วัดน้อย" เนื่องจากตั้งอยู่ริมคลองบางกอกน้อย ซึ่งอยู่ทางทิศเหนือของวัดปัจจุบัน ต่อมาได้ย้ายเสนาสนะมาสร้างทางทิศใต้ จึงได้เปลี่ยนชื่อใหม่ว่า "วัดใหญ่ยิ่ง" ต่อมา พ.ศ. 2463 สมเด็จพระสมณเจ้ากรมพระยาวชิรญาณวโรรส ได้เสด็จมาประทับ ณ พระตำหนักชั่วคราว ประทับอยู่ประมาณ 47 วัน และทรงพอพระทัยในพระตำหนักที่พักแรม จึงได้ขนานามใหม่ว่า "วัดใหญ่สว่างอารมณ์" อาคารเสนาสนะประกอบด้วย อุโบสถเป็นอาคารคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก ศาลาการเปรียญสร้างเมื่อ พ.ศ.2455 เป็นอาคารคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก ไม้ ทรงไทยชั้นเดียว หอสวดมนต์สร้างเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2475 เป็นอาคารไม้ กุฏิสงฆ์เป็นอาคารไม้และครึ่งตึกครึ่งไม้ วิหารสร้างเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2506 เป็นอาคารคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก ศาลาบำเพ็ญกุศลสร้างด้วยคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก ส่วนปูชนียวัตถุ มีพระประธานประจำอุโบสถปางสมาธิ สร้างเมื่อ พ.ศ.1963 พระประธานประจำศาลาการเปรียญปางสมาธิ สร้างเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2505
