ประเพณีบุญเบิกฟ้า

ช่วงเวลา วันขึ้น ๓ ค่ำ เดือน ๓ ของทุก ๆ ปี (อยู่ระหว่างปลายเดือนมกราคม-ต้นเดือนกุมภาพันธ์)

ความสำคัญ

ประเพณีบุญเบิกฟ้า เป็นประเพณีของชาวมหาสารคามที่ประกอบขึ้นตามความเชื่อว่า เมื่อถึงวันขึ้น ๓ ค่ำ เดือน ๓ ของทุกๆ ปี ฟ้าจะเริ่มไขประตูฝน โดยจะมีเสียงฟ้าร้อง และทิศที่ฟ้าร้องเป็นสัญญาณบ่งบอกตัวกำหนดปริมาณน้ำฝนที่จะตกลงมาหล่อเลี้ยงการเกษตรในปีนั้น ๆ
ตำนานโบราณกล่าวถึงทิศที่ฟ้าร้องว่า

ด้วยความเชื่อตามตำนานดังกล่าว ชาวมหาสารคามจึงมีประเพณีบุญเบิกฟ้า (เดิมเรียกว่าบุญเบิกบ้าน) เพื่อขอพรจากแถน (เทพผู้เป็นใหญ่) ให้ไขประตูฟ้าทางทิศที่เป็นมงคล
อนึ่งในวันขึ้น ๓ ค่ำ เดือน ๓ จะมีปรากฏการณ์มหัศจรรย์เกิดขึ้น ๓ อย่างคือ
๑. กบไม่มีปาก คือจะมีแผ่นเยื่อเกิดขึ้นปิดรูกบเป็นอันว่าวันนั้นกบจำศีล ไม่ฆ่าสัตว์อื่น ๆ เป็นอาหาร
๒. นากไม่มีรูทวาร คือมีแผ่นเยื่อเกิดขึ้นปิดทวารหนักของตัวนาก เป็นอันว่านากจะไม่ขับถ่ายในวันนั้น เพราะไม่ได้กินอาหาร
๓. มะขามป้อมจะมีรสหวาน

พิธีกรรม

พิธีกรรมบุญเบิกฟ้า มี ๔ อย่างคือ
๑. จัดพิธีสู่ขวัญข้าว ชาวอีสานเรียกว่าทำบุญตุ้มปากเล้า
๒. หาบปุ๋ยคอก (ชาวอีสานเรียกว่าฝุ่น)ไปใส่ผืนนา
๓. ทำบุญเฮือน (ทำร่วมกับทำบุญปากเล้า)
๔. นำข้าวเปลือกเต็มกระบุงไปถวายวัด
มีลำดับขั้นตอนการทำพิธีต่าง ๆ ดังนี้
๑. พิธีสู่ขวัญข้าว เพื่อแสดงความกตัญญูต่อพระแม่โพสพ เพื่อความสบายใจในการซื้อขายข้าว และเพื่อให้การแบ่งปันข้าวแก่ญาติมิตรผู้มาร่วมพิธี

พิธีกรรม

๑. จัดเครื่องบูชาวางไว้บนกองข้าว ในยุ้งฉางข้าวมีผ้าขาวปูรองรับ โยงด้ายสายสิญจน์ จากเครื่องบูชานั้น โยงไปรอบยุ้งและไปยังเรือนเจ้าของยุ้ง

๒. พิธีหาบฝุ่น(ปุ๋ยคอก)ใส่ผืนนา

ตอนเย็นนิมนต์พระภิกษุจำนวน ๕ หรือ ๙ รูป มาสวดมนต์เย็นที่บ้าน ตอนเช้าของวันรุ่งขึ้นนิมนต์พระสงฆ์ชุดเดิมมาสวดมนต์เช้าที่บ้านแล้วทำบุญตักบาตรและถวายจังหันเช้า
