ประวัติ
อำเภอวังทอง ตั้งเป็นอำเภอเมื่อ ปี พ.ศ. 2438 -ปัจจุบัน เป็นเวลา 118 ปี ในเวลา นั้น ยังไม่มีเขตการปกครอง อ.วัดโบสถ์ และอ.บางกระทุ่ม อำเภอตั้งอยู่ที่ "บ้านสามเรือน" ซึ่งเรียกว่า "นครป่าหมาก" ต่อมาเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2441 ได้ย้ายจากบ้านสามเรือน ต.นครป่าหมาก มาตั้ง ที่บ้านวังทอง ต.ตลาดชุม (ปัจจุบัน คือ ต.วังทอง ตรงกับตลาดเทศบาลวังทอง) และเรียกว่า อำเภอ นครป่าหมาก เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2571 ได้มีประกาศพระราชกฤษฎีกา จัดตั้งเขตการปกครองกิ่งอำเภอบางกระทุ่ม โดยขึ้นต่อ อ.เมืองพิษณุโลก โดยโอน ต.เนินกลุ่ม ต.ไผ่ล้อม และ ต.นครป่าหมาก ไปเป็นเขตปกครอง ของ อ.บางกระทุ่ม และได้โอน ต.บ้านกลาง ต.แก่งโสภา ซึ่งขณะนั้น อยู่ในเขตการปกครองของ อ.นครไทย มาขึ้นกับเขตการปกครองของ อำเภอนครป่าหมาก ต่อมาบริเวณที่ว่าการ อำเภอนครป่าหมากได้ถูกน้ำเซาะตลิ่งพัง จึงได้ย้ายที่ว่าการอำเภออีกครั้งหนึ่ง เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2485 และเปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น "อำเภอวังทอง" มาจนถึงปัจจุบันนี้
