อาเซียน ถือได้ว่าประสบความสำเร็จจนเป็นที่ยอมรับจากหลายฝ่ายในหลายด้าน ไม่ว่าจะเป็นด้านการเมืองและความมั่นคง ด้านเศรษฐกิจและการพัฒนา และด้านสังคมและวัฒนธรรม ซึ่งในภาพรวม สามารถสรุปได้ดังนี้
