ความเข้าใจในการอ่านของแต่ละบุคคลมีความแตกต่างกันขึ้นอยู่กับสติปัญญา ความรู้ด้านภาษา และประสบการณ์เนื่องจากความเข้าใจในการอ่านมีบทบาทสำคัญในการพัฒนาการอ่าน ผู้สอนจึงควรคำนึงถึงระดับความเข้าใจในการอ่านของผู้เรียน เพื่อการจัดการเรียนการสอนให้เหมาะสมกับผู้เรียน Bloom’s Taxonomy เป็นการแบ่งระดับความรู้จากการอ่านที่รู้จักกันอย่างกว้างขวาง โดยสร้างอยู่บนพื้นฐานของพุทธพิสัย (Cognitive Domain) โดยแบ่งระดับความเข้าใจออกเป็น 7 ระดับ ดังนี้ (Angelo and Cross,1993)
