          ในปี 2546 เทศบาลเมืองนครนครศรีธรรมราช ได้ปรับปรุงอาคารวีรไทยซึ่งตั้งอยู่ภายในสวนสมเด็จพระศรีนครินทร์ 84 ทุ่งท่าลาด และจัดทำเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์เมืองเพื่อเป็นแหล่งเรียนรู้เชิงประวัติศาสตร์และวัฒนธรรมของเมืองโดยได้รับความร่วมมือจากทั้งหน่วยราชการและเอกชน ตลอดจนประชาชนในท้องถิ่น

รูป  พิพิธภัณฑ์เมืองประกอบด้วย 2 อาคารหลักๆที่แสดงทั้งประวัติความเป็นมาของจังหวัดนครศรีธรรมราช ตั้งแต่เริ่มสร้างบ้านแปลงเมือง

          อาคารหลังแรกมีซื่อว่า “อาคารวีรไทย” ประกอบด้วยการจัดแสดง ลักษณะทางภูมิศาสตร์-วิวัฒนาการเมือง-ประวัติยุคก่อนประวติศาสตร์-สมัยสุโขทัย-อยุธยา-รัตนโกสินทร์

ผังจัดแสดง ชั้นที่ 1 เป็นการแสดงประวัติเมืองนคร ผู้ปกครองเมือง ศาสนา ศิลปะวัฒนธรรม ประเพณีที่มีการสืบทอดมาจนถึงปัจจุบัน รวมถึงบุคคลสำคัญที่ทำคุณประโยชน์ให้แก่จังหวัดประกอบไปด้วยโชนต่างๆดังนี้
