กาลครั้งหนึ่งนานมาแล้วมีหมู่บ้านแห่งหนึ่งมีผู้คนอาศัยอยู่ในหมู่บ้านแห่งนี้ มีอันธพาลอาศัยอยู่มากและความรุนแรงก็เกิดขึ้น นับวันความรุนแรงยิ่งทวีคูณขึ้นเรื่อยๆ คนในหมู่บ้านเริ่มอาศัยอยู่อย่างหวาดกลัว ในเวลากลางคืนจะมีกลุ่มอันธพาลมาตีกลองรอบหมู่บ้านเพื่อไม่ให้ผู้คนหลับเป็นอย่างนี้เรื่อย
คนในหมู่บ้านมีความเชื่อเรื่องสิงโต เชื่อกันว่าหากที่ใดมีความทุกข์สิงโตจะปรากฏเพื่อให้นำความสงบสุขมาให้ที่แห่งนั้น จนกระทั่งคืนหนึ่งกลุ่มอันธพาลได้มาตีกลองเหมือนดั่งเช่นเคยแต่เพียงไม่นานก็มีสิงโตออกมาจากป่าหลังหมู่บ้านได้ยินเสียงกลองจึงโกรธมากจึงเข้าไปอาละวาดใส่กลุ่มอันธพาลจนกลุ่มอันธพาลไม่กล้ากลับมาอีกเลยแล้วสิงโตก็วิ่งกลับป่าไป คนในหมู่บ้านต่างดีใจจึงร่วมกันเชิดสิงโตอย่างสนุกสนานเพื่อเป็นการเทิดทูนสิงโตจนเกิดเป็นประเพณีเชิดสิงโตในทุกๆปี
