การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ

การวิจัยครั้งนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อ (1) ศึกษาพฤติกรรมทางการเมืองของนักเรียนนายร้อย โรงเรียนนายร้อยพระจุลจอมเกล้า ปีการศึกษา พ.ศ.2556 (2) ศึกษาพฤติกรรมทางการเมืองของนักเรียนนายร้อยที่มีผลต่อพัฒนาการทางการเมืองไทย และ (3) ศึกษาปัญหาและอุปสรรคในการแสดงพฤติกรรมทางการเมืองของนักเรียนนายร้อย
การศึกษาวิจัยในครั้งนี้ประกอบด้วยการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณและเชิงคุณภาพ โดยการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ จากนักเรียนนายร้อย ชั้นปีที่ 1- 4 รวมจำนวน 797 คน สามารถเก็บตัวอย่างได้ 590 คน เครื่องมือวิจัยใช้แบบสอบถามและการวิเคราะห์ข้อมูลสถิติเชิงพรรณนา ได้แก่ ค่าเฉลี่ย (xˉ) ค่าร้อยละ (%) ค่าเบี่ยงเบนมาตรฐาน (SD.) และค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์แบบเพียร์สัน การวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ ใช้การเลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างแบบเจาะจง จำนวน 9 คน ได้แก่ รองผู้บัญชาการ รร.จปร. จำนวน 1 คน อาจารย์ประจำกองวิชากฎหมายและสังคมศาสตร์ จำนวน 2 คน นายทหารปกครอง กรมนักเรียนนายร้อยรักษาพระองค์ จำนวน 2 คน และผู้แทนนักเรียนนายร้อยแต่ละชั้นปี ชั้นปีที่ 1-4 จำนวน 4 คน เครื่องมือวิจัยใช้การสัมภาษณ์และวิเคราะห์เชิงพรรณนา
ผลการวิจัย (1) พฤติกรรมทางการเมืองของนักเรียนนายร้อย จากการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ พบว่ามีการแสดงออกพฤติกรรมทางการเมืองอยู่ในระดับปานกลาง (xˉ=3.29) โดยแสดงพฤติกรรมการมีส่วนร่วมในกิจกรรมการเลือกตั้งมากที่สุด (xˉ=3.99) และการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ พบว่านักเรียนนายร้อยแสดงพฤติกรรมการมีส่วนรวมในกิจกรรมการเลือกตั้งมากที่สุด เป็นผลมาจากการสนับสนุนของ รร.จปร. เพื่อตอบสนองนโยบายของรัฐบาล และป้องกันการเสียสิทธิทางการเมือง (2) พฤติกรรมทางการเมืองของนักเรียนนายร้อยที่มีผลต่อพัฒนาการทางการเมืองไทย จากการวิจัยเชิงปริมาณ เมื่อพิจารณาค่าสัมประสิทธิ์สหสัมพันธ์แบบเพียร์สัน พบว่าพฤติกรรมทางการเมืองของนักเรียนนายร้อยมีความสัมพันธ์ทางสถิติอย่างมีนัยสำคัญที่ระดับ 0.01 กับพัฒนาการทางการเมืองไทย ไปในทิศทางเดียวกัน ทั้งด้านความเสมอภาค ด้านการสร้างวัฒนธรรมทางการเมืองแบบมีเหตุผล และด้านความสามารถในการปรับตัวของรัฐบาล ตามลำดับ และการวิจัยเชิงคุณภาพ พบว่าพฤติกรรมทางการเมืองจะมีผลต่อพัฒนาการทางการเมืองไทยในทุกๆ ด้าน การมีส่วนร่วมในกิจกรรมการเลือกตั้งจะมีผลต่อการสร้างวัฒนธรรมทางการเมืองแบบมีเหตุผลมากที่สุด เพราะต้องใช้เหตุผลในการตัดสินใจ และผู้ที่ได้รับเลือกก็ต้องใช้เหตุผลในการทำงาน การปลูกฝังอุดมการณ์ทางการเมืองจะมีผลต่อด้านความเสมอภาคและการสร้างวัฒนธรรมทางการเมืองแบบมีเหตุผลมากที่สุด เพราะความเสมอภาคและหลักการใช้เหตุผลคือพื้นฐานสำคัญของการปกครองระบอบประชาธิปไตย และการรับรู้ข่าวสารทางการเมืองจะมีผลต่อด้านความสามารถในการปรับตัวของรัฐบาลมากที่สุด เพราะการรับรู้ข่าวสารนำไปสู่ความตื่นตัวทางการเมือง มีการติดตามและตรวจสอบการทำงานของรัฐบาล จากผลการวิจัยทั้งสองแบบพบว่ามีความสอดคล้องกัน โดยพฤติกรรมทางการเมืองของนักเรียนนายร้อยจะมีความสัมพันธ์เชิงบวกกับพัฒนาการทางการเมืองไทย และ (3) ปัญหาและอุปสรรคในการแสดงพฤติกรรมทางการเมืองของนักเรียนนายร้อย ได้แก่ ด้านตัวนักเรียนนายร้อยที่บางส่วนยังขาดความเข้าใจและมีทัศนคติเชิงลบต่อการเมืองแบบประชาธิปไตย ข้อจำกัดด้านเวลา เพราะต้องฝึกศึกษาตามหลักสูตรที่เน้นการสร้างนายทหารอาชีพในบทบาทผู้พิทักษ์ ประกอบกับสภาพสังคมนักเรียนนายร้อยที่มีแบบแผนในการดำรงชีวิตและต้องทำตามระเบียบปฏิบัติประจำวัน ด้านระบบและธรรมเนียมทหารที่ต้องยึดถือ และการปฏิบัติตามกรอบนโยบายของผู้บังคับบัญชาที่ไม่เอื้ออำนวยต่อการมีส่วนร่วมแบบประชาธิปไตยเท่าที่ควร
