เศรษฐกิจของจังหวัดพังงา

โครงสร้างเศรษฐกิจโดยรวมของจังหวัดพังงา ประกอบไปด้วย ภาคการเกษตรที่มีพืชเศรษฐกิจหลักคือ ยางพารา รองลงไปคือปาล์มน้ำมัน มีรายได้เฉลี่ยภาคเกษตร 47,840 บาท/คน/ปี สำหรับด้านปศุสัตว์ จังหวัดพังงามีการเลี้ยงสัตว์เพื่อบริโภคภายในจังหวัด และสามารถส่งจำหน่ายจังหวัดใกล้เคียงได้จำนวนหนึ่ง โดยในปี 2007 มีมูลค่ารวมประมาณ 177.19 ล้านบาท เป็นมูลค่าการบริโภคในจังหวัด 49.2196 ล้านบาท และส่งออก 166.071 ล้านบาท

จังหวัดพังงาเป็นจังหวัดที่มีความสำคัญทางด้านการประมงมากจังหวัดหนึ่ง เนื่องจากสภาพพื้นที่มีอาณาเขตติดต่อกับทะเลอันดามัน ดังนั้น อาชีพทำการประมงจึงเป็นอาชีพหลักสำคัญอีกอาชีพหนึ่งของจังหวัด โดยพื้นที่ทำการประมงส่วนใหญ่ คือ บริเวณท้องทะเลอันดามันไปจนสุดแนวเขตประเทศพม่าและในบริเวณอ่าวพังงา มีการทำประมงขนาดใหญ่ด้วยเรืออวนดำหรืออวนล้อมจับ อวนลอยปลาอินทรี อวนลากแผ่นตะเฆ่ อวนรุน อวนไดหมึก เป็นต้น และการประมงขนาดเล็กส่วนมากใช้เครื่องมือพื้นบ้าน ได้แก่ อวนลอยปลา อวนลอยปู อวนลอยกุ้ง ลอบปลา ลอบปู ลอบหมึก และระวะกุ้งเคย เป็นต้น

เนื่องจากจังหวัดพังงามีท้องทะเลอ่าวพังงาที่อุดมสมบูรณ์ เป็นแหล่งแพร่ขยายพันธุ์สัตว์น้ำ และพักรักษาตัวของสัตว์น้ำวัยอ่อน โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งปลาทู กระทรวงเกษตรและสหกรณ์จึงออกประกาศกระทรวงฯ ลงวันที่ 11 เมษายน 1985 ห้ามใช้เครื่องมือประมงบางชนิดทำการประมงตั้งแต่วันที่ 15 เมษายน ถึง 15 มิถุนายน ของทุกปี จากการประกาศการอนุรักษ์ทรัพยากรสัตว์น้ำดังกล่าว ทำให้ชาวประมงจังหวัดพังงาประกอบอาชีพการประมงได้อย่างยั่งยืน
