ระบบกฎหมายสมัยกรุงศรีอยุธยาตอนต้น

สมัยสมเด็จพระบรมไตรโลกนาถ
ในสมัยสมเด็จพระบรมไตรโลกนาถ ได้มีกฎหมายใหม่หลายฉบับ บางฉบับก็ปรับปรุงจากของเก่า กฎหมายที่ตราขึ้นใหม่มีดังนี้

จากหลักฐานทางประวัติศาสตร์ เช่น ศิลาจารึกสุโขทัย และจดหมายเหตุของจีน ทำให้เราทราบว่า ศักดินาไม่ได้มีเมื่อสมัยสมเด็จพระบรมไตรโลกนาถ แต่ได้มีมานานแล้ว เป็นเพียงแต่พระองค์ได้ทรงวางหลักเกณฑ์และปรับปรุงใหม่เท่านั้น
ในสมัยก่อน ถือว่า พระเจ้าแผ่นดินทรงเป็นเจ้าของแผ่นดินทั่วราชอาณาจักร ข้าราชการและพระบรมวงศานุวงศ์ ยังไม่มีเงินเดือน เงินปีอย่างสมัยนี้ จึงใช้วิธีพระราชทานที่ดินให้มากน้อยตามฐานะแต่ความเป็นจริง แล้วก็ไม่ได้มีที่ดินไว้ในครอบครองตามที่กำหนด แต่อย่างไรก็ตาม ศักดินาเป็นเครื่องกำหนดชั้นฐานะของบุคคลและยังมีผลในทางด้านอื่นๆ ด้วยเช่น
