ประเภทของฝายชะลอน้ำหรือฝายชะลอความชุ่มชื้น แบ่งได้ ๒ ประเภท

๒. แบบเรียงด้วยหินค่อนข้างถาวร เป็นการก่อสร้างด้วยการเรียงหินเป็นผนังกั้นน้ำ ก่อสร้างบริเวณตอนกลางและตอนล่างของลำห้วย หรือร่องน้ำ จะสามารถดักตะกอน และเก็บกักน้ำในช่วงฤดูแล้งได้บางส่วน
๓. แบบคอนกรีตเสริมเหล็ก เป็นการก่อสร้างแบบถาวร ส่วนมากจะดำเนินการในบริเวณตอนปลายของลำห้วยหรือร่องน้ำ ทำให้สามารถดักตะกอน และเก็บกักน้ำในฤดูแล้งได้ดี ค่าก่อสร้างขึ้นอยู่กับขนาดของลำห้วย ซึ่งควรมีความกว้างไม่เกิน ๔ เมตร
