EnvisagingThe third and last component of the conceptual framework is envisaging. Envisaging can be defined as the ability to imagine or expect something in the future. Human beings are able to transfer descriptions of the present to either the past or the future. This is the reason why this section not only includes questions about how the interviewees see the future development of this industry, but also embraces questions about how the interviewees evaluate the crisis preparedness of private and public organizations; how they evaluate their clients’ ability to benefit from the advice offered by crisis consultants; and last but not least how they assess their peers in the consulting industry. Some of these topics are covered by terms such as profession and professionalism. How do the interviewees see future needs and competences within this profession? Are organizations and crisis consultants moving towards professionalization? By asking the interviewees to envisage the future development of the industry and evaluate themselves, their clients, and their peers, we get access to an important temporal dimension of their professional world view.
