วัดท่าการ้อง ตั้งอยู่บริเวณริมแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา เป็นวัดโบราณมีมาแต่สมัยอยุธยาตอนกลาง โดยการรวมวัด 2 วัดเข้าด้วยกัน คือ วัดท่าและวัดการ้อง สร้างขึ้นก่อนราว พ.ศ. 2092 โดยไม่ปรากฏหลักฐานการสร้าง มีเพียงบันทึกในพระราชพงศาวดารว่าพม่าได้มาตั้งค่ายที่วัดการ้อง ถึง 2 ครั้ง คือ สมัยพระมหาจักรพรรดิ เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2106 โดยพระเจ้าตะเบ็งชเวตี้ได้ยกทัพมาตั้งค่ายที่วัดการ้องเมื่อคราวสงครามช้างเผือก และอีกครั้งคือสมัยพระเจ้าเอกทัศ โดยเนเมียวสีหบดีแม่ทัพพม่าเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2310
