เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2530 นายสมบูรณ์ ไทยวัชรามาศ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดนครราชสีมาในขณะนั้น ได้พิจารณาเห็นว่าเป็นปีที่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวภูมิพลอดุลยเดช จะทรงเจริญพระชนมายุ 60 พรรษา ในวันที่ 5 ธันวาคม 2530 และรัฐบาลได้กำหนดให้เป็นปีเฉลิมพระเกียรติแต่พระเจ้าสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัวและเป็นปีท่องเที่ยวไทย สมควรจะได้ดำเนินการก่อสร้างถาวรวัตถุให้เป็นกิจกรรมเพื่อเฉลิมพระเกียรติและถวายความจงรักภักดีแด่พระบาทสมเด็จพระเจ้าอยู่หัว จึงได้จัดทำโครงการก่อสร้างกำแพงและซุ้มประตูเมืองนครราชสีมาอีก 3 ประตู ซึ่งหักพัง และถูกรื้อสูญไปแล้ว ให้มีครบทั้ง 4 ประตู ตามที่เคยมีมาตั้งแต่โบราณ

ขั้นตอนในการก่อสร้าง
ขั้นตอนที่ 1

จังหวัดได้ขอใช้ที่ราชพัสดุทั้ง 3 แห่ง ในการก่อสร้าง และได้รับอนุญาตจากกรมธนารักษ์ตามหนังสือด่วนมาก ที่ กค 0507/3788 ลงวันที่ 29 พฤษภาคม 2530 และจังหวัดได้ขอรับความเห็นจากกรมศิลปากรเกี่ยวกับจุดก่อสร้างประตูเมืองทั้ง 3 แห่ง และแบบแปลน

ซึ่งสำนักงานโยธาธิการจังหวัดนครราชสีมาเขียนขึ้น (แบบแปลนที่ ยธ.นม.232) ตลอดจนขอทราบว่า แต่เดิมกรมศิลปากรได้ขึ้นทะเบียนประตูเมืองทั้ง 3 แห่ง เป็นโบราณสถานหรือไม่ และยินยอมให้จังหวัดนครราชสีมา ก่อสร้างประตูเมืองตามแบบแปลนที่ ยธ.นม.232 ดังกล่าวหรือไม่ กรมศิลปากรแจ้งให้ทราบว่า กรมศิลปากรมิได้ขึ้นทะเบียนโบราณสถานประตูเมืองทั้งสามไว้ จึงเป็นเรื่องที่อยู่ในดุลยพินิจของจังหวัดที่จะดำเนินการ (ตามหนังสือด่วนที่สุดที่ ศธ 0704/2016 ลงวันที่ 15 พฤษภาคม 2530)

ขั้นตอนที่ 2
การออกแบบก่อสร้าง คณะกรรมการฝ่ายช่าง ซึ่งประกอบด้วย นายประชา จิตรภิรมย์ศรี โยธาธิการจังหวัดนครราชสีมาเป็นประธาน นายสมศักดิ์ กุลนรากร นายช่างโยธา 4 เป็นกรรมการและเลขานุการ มีหน้าที่ออกแบบกำแพง และซุ้มประตูเมืองให้มีรูปลักษณะคล้ายของเดิมตามประวัติศาสตร์ โดยให้ถือประตูชุมพลเป็นแบบ คณะกรรมการฝ่ายช่างได้ออกแบบตามแบบ ยธ.นม.232 และประมาณการก่อสร้างประมาณประตูละ 1.3 ล้านบาทเศษ

การจัดหาทุนก่อสร้าง คณะกรรมการฝ่ายจัดหาทุนก่อสร้าง ซึ่งประกอบไปด้วย นายสมบูรณ์ ไทยวัชรามาศ ผู้ว่าราชการจังหวัดนครราชสีมา เป็นประธาน นายสถิตย์ ภักดิ์ศรีแพง หัวหน้าฝ่ายบริหาร สำนักงานจังหวัดนครราชสีมา เป็นกรรมการและเลขานุการ มีหน้าที่จัดหาทุนจากผู้มีจิตศรัทธาบริจาค โดยไม่ใช้งบประมาณของทางราชการ ผลการดำเนินการของคณะกรรมการฝ่ายจัดหาทุนก่อสร้าง ปรากฏว่า มีผู้บริจาคเงินก่อสร้าง ดังนี้
