การศึกษาวิจัยในครั้งนี้เป็นการศึกษาวิจัยพรรณนาเชิงวิเคราะห์ ( Analytic Descriptive Research ) แบบภาคตัดขวาง ( Cross Sectional Studies) เพื่อศึกษาปัจจัยทีมีความสัมพันธ์ต่อพฤติกรรมป้องกันโรคหลอดเลือดหัวใจของชายวัยทองในเขตประเวศ กรุงเทพมหานคร คำนวณขนาดของกลุ่มตัวอย่างโดยใช้สูตร (Daniel, 2005:187) ได้จำนวน 315 ราย เลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างในการศึกษาครั้งนี้ด้วยวิธีการสุ่มตัวอย่างแบบหลายขั้นตอน ( Multiple stage Random Sampling ) โดยจัดเขตการปกครองออกเป็นทั้งหมด 3 แขวง ได้แก่ แขวงประเวศ แขวงดอกไม้ แขวงหนองบอน ซึ่งแขวงประเวศ มีทั้งหมด 26 ชุมชน สุ่มเลือกมา 6 ชุมชน แขวงดอกไม้และแขวงหนองบอน ประกอบด้วย แขวงชุมชนละ 6 ชุมชน โดยสุ่มเลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างมาอย่างละ 2 ชุมชน ซึ่งในแต่ละชุมชน ทำการสุ่มเลือกกลุ่มตัวอย่างมาในแต่ละชุมชนจนครบจำนวนกลุ่มตัวอย่าง
