แยกเป็นกลุ่มๆทดลอง ผู้ป่วยกลุ่มละ 30 คน กลุ่มทดลองได้เข้าร่วมโปรแกรมการส่งเสริมการรับรู้สมรรถนะแห่งตนตามทฤษฎีการรับรู้สมรรถนะแห่งตนของแบนดูรา
ประกอบด้วย 1) ประสบการณ์ที่ประสบความสำเร็จ ได้แก่ การเล่าสู่กันฟัง การสร้างสัมพันธภาพ การสะท้อนคิด และการได้รับคำแนะนำเกี่ยวกับโรคเบาหวาน
