Scientific inquiry หมายถึงความสามารถในการสืบเสาะหาความรู้ของผู้เรียน รวมถึงความเข้าใจเกี่ยวกับกระบวนการสืบเสาะหาความรู้นั้นด้วย ทั้งนี้หัวใจสำคัญของการสืบเสาะหาความรู้ในชั้นเรียน ก็เพื่อให้นักเรียนได้ใช้ทักษะกระบวนการในการตรวจสอบและรวบรวมข้อมูล มาอธิบายปรากฏการณ์ และ แก้ปัญหาหรือข้อสงสัยเพื่อให้เกิดความรู้ความเข้าใจในหลักการเนื้อหาทางวิทยาศาสตร์โดยอาศัยกระบวนการหรือขั้นตอนดังนี้
