นกกระสาแดง (อังกฤษ: Purple heron; ชื่อวิทยาศาสตร์: Ardea purpurea) เป็นนกน้ำในตระกูล Ardeidae มีถิ่นผสมพันธุ์อยู่ในแอฟริกา ยุโรปตอนกลางและตอนใต้ เอเชียใต้ และเอเชียตะวันออก กลุ่มที่อาศัยอยู่ในยุโรปจะอพยพลงสู่เขตร้อนในแอฟริกาในฤดูหนาว ส่วนกลุ่มที่อาศัยอยู่ในเอเชียก็จะมีการอพยพลงใต้ภายในทวีปเช่นกัน จัดว่าเป็นนกที่หายาก แต่เวลาที่อพยพจะพบเห็นได้บ่อยในภูมิภาคทางตอนเหนือของถิ่นผสมพันธุ์

นกชนิดนี้จัดเป็นนกขนาดใหญ่ โดยมีความสูง 80-90 เซนติเมตร ความกว้างของปีกสองข้าง 120-150 เซนติเมตร แต่มีลำตัวผอมบาง มีน้ำหนักเพียง 500-1,300 กรัมเท่านั้น มีลักษณะใกล้เคียงกับนกกระสานวล แต่ขนาดค่อนข้างเล็กกว่า และมีสีขนที่แตกต่างกัน โดยนกกระสาแดงจะมีขนสีน้ำตาลแดงเข้ม และเมื่อโตเต็มวัย ขนที่หลังจะเป็นสีเทาเข้มขึ้น จงอยปากมีสีเหลืองและแคบบาง ซึ่งในตัวเต็มวัยจะมีสีสว่างขึ้น

พฤติกรรม
