วัฒนธรรม
             วัฒนธรรมของพม่าได้รับอิทธิพลทั้งจากจีน อินเดีย และไทยมาช้านาน ดังสะท้อนให้เห็นในด้านภาษา ดนตรี และอาหาร สำหรับศิลปะของพม่านั้นได้รับอิทธิพลจากวรรณคดีและพระพุทธศาสนานิกายเถรวาท มาตั้งแต่ครั้งโบราณ ในปัจจุบันนี้วัฒนธรรมพม่ายังได้รับอิทธิพลจากตะวันตกมากขึ้น ซึ่งเห็นได้ชัดจากเขตชนบทของประเทศ    ด้านการแต่งกาย ชาวพม่าทั้งหญิงและชายนิยมนุ่งโสร่ง เรียกว่า ลองยี     ส่วนการแต่งกายแบบโบราณเรียกว่า    ลุนตยาอชิก

ประเพณี ปอยส่างลอง
             ประเพณี ปอยส่างลอง หรือที่เรียกว่า“งานบวชลูกแก้ว”เป็นงานประเพณีประจำของชาวไต หรือไทยใหญ่ ซึ่งได้มีการจัดสืบทอดกันมายาวนาน คำว่า ปอย แปลว่า งาน ซึ่งหมายถึง งานเทศกาล งานรื่นเริง งานมงคลต่าง ๆ ส่าง แปลว่า พระ-เณร และ ลอง มาจาก คำว่า อะลอง แปลว่า กษัตริย์ ราชา เกี่ยวกับเจ้าแผ่นดิน เมื่อรวมกันก็หมายถึง งานเตรียมบวชเป็นพระเณรของเด็กที่แต่งดาเป็นกษัตริย์หรือราชานั่นเอง

             โดย งาน “ปอยส่างลอง” นี้ จะนิยมจัดในช่วงระหว่างเดือนมีนาคม ถึง เดือนพฤษภาคมของทุกปี เนื่องจากเป็นช่วงที่ชาวบ้านมีเวลาว่างเว้น หลังจากเก็บเกี่ยวผืชผลเกษตรในไร่นาแล้วเสร็จ ประกอบกับเป็นช่วงปิดเทอมปิดภาคเรียนของเด็กๆ สาเหตุที่ชาวไทยใหญ่ได้จัดงานนี้ก็เพราะต้องการให้บุตรหลานได้มีโอกาสบรรพชา เป็นพระภิกษุสามเณรเพื่อสืบทอดพระพุทธศาสนา ดังจะเห็นได้ว่าชายชาวไทยใหญ่ที่นับถือพระพุทธศาสนา ล้วนจะได้ผ่านการบวชเป็นพระหรือสามเณรจากงานประเพณีปอยส่างลองนี้กันมาแทบ ทั้งสิ้น 

             นับแต่อดีตมา พม่ามีงานประเพณีของแต่ละเดือนในรอบปี เรียกว่า แซะนะล่ะหย่าตี่บะแว หรือประเพณีสิบสองเดือน ในยุคราชวงศ์ของพม่ามีการกำหนดให้งานนี้เป็นพระราชพิธี แม้ว่าในปัจจุบันพม่าจะยังคงสืบทอดงานประเพณีสิบสองเดือนไว้ แต่ก็มีการเปลี่ยนแปลงไปจากเดิมบ้าง ประเพณีสิบสองเดือนของพม่าเป็นดังนี้ (เดือน 1 ของพม่า เท่ากับเดือน 5 ของไทย และเดือน 12 ไทย เท่ากับเดือน 8 พม่า)
