บริษัทกัลฟ์ เพาเวอร์ เจเนอเรชั่น จำกัด ในเครือบริษัทกัลฟ์ อิเล็คตริก จำกัด (มหาชน) หรือโรงไฟฟ้าแก่งคอย2 เป็นบริษัทที่ทำการผลิตกระแสไฟฟ้า โดยมีลูกค้าคือการไฟฟ้าฝ่ายผลิตแห่งประเทศไทย จาการที่ได้เข้าไปปฏิบัติสหกิจศึกษา ในบริษัทกัลฟ์ เพาเวอร์ เจเนอเรชั่น จำกัด ได้รับมอบหมายให้ปฏิบัติงานในแผนกซ่อมบำรุง ส่วนเครื่องกล ซึ่งเป็นแผนกที่สำคัญเป็นอย่างมากต่อกระบวนการบำรุงรักษาเครื่องจักรที่ใช้ในการผลิตไฟฟ้า
ในการเข้าไปปฏิบัติงานนั้น ได้ทำโครงการแบ่งเป็น 2 ส่วน ส่วนแรกคือการออกแบบแผ่นออริฟิสสำหรับการเติมน้ำความดันสูงเข้าสู่หม้อไอน้ำ โดยศึกษาถึงหลักการทำงานของหม้อไอน้ำในโรงไฟฟ้าความร้อนร่วม พร้อมทั้งยังศึกษาถึงหลักการทำงานของแผ่นออริฟิสชนิดต่างๆ และทำการออกแบบแผ่นออริฟิสโดยการสร้างแบบจำลองการไหลของน้ำความดันสูงผ่านแผ่นออริฟิสแล้ววิเคราะห์ผล ด้วยโปรแกรม Solidworks Flow Simulation 2013 จากนั้นทำการเลือกแผ่นออริฟิสที่เหมาะสมกับการใช้งานที่สุด
ในการปฏิบัติดังกล่าวข้างต้นจะส่งผลในด้านการป้องกันความเสียหายของท่อบริเวณหลังแผ่นออริฟิส และเป็นการลดค่าใช้จ่ายในการซ่อมบำรุงด้วย
โครงการในส่วนที่สอง คือ การจัดทำสมดุลการใช้น้ำของโรงไฟฟ้าแก่งคอย2 โดยใช้วิธีการรวบรวมข้อมูลจากแหล่งต่างๆ ซึ่งโรงไฟฟ้าแก่งคอย 2 ได้รับการอนุมัติจากสำนักชลประทานที่ 10 ให้สามารถใช้น้ำในแม่น้ำป่าสักได้ไม่เกิน 54,400 ลูกบาศก์เมตร/วัน และระบายน้ำทิ้งออกนอกโรงงานได้ไม่เกิน 10,000 ลูกบาศก์เมตร/วัน
การจัดทำสมดุลการใช้น้ำเป็นการตรวจสอบว่า น้ำที่เข้าสู้โรงงานถูกนำไปใช้ในกิจกรรมใดบ้าง น้ำที่ออกโรงงานออกไปทางช่องทางใดบ้าง และน้ำที่เข้า - ออกจากโรงงานมีปริมาณเท่ากันหรือไม่
