ที่มาและความสำคัญของโครงงาน
ในปัจจุบันความนิยมในการใช้ขวดพลาสติกในการบรรจุอาหารและเครื่องดื่มมีเป็นจำนวนมาก เนื่องจากสะดวกในการใช้งาน หาง่ายและมีราคาถูก ผลิตภัณฑ์เหล่านี้จะทำให้เกิดขยะมูลฝอยพลาสติก ซึ่งเป็นสาเหตุประการหนึ่งที่ก่อให้เกิดปัญหาสิ่งแวดล้อมและมีผลต่อสุขภาพอนามัย ขยะมีปริมาณเพิ่มขึ้นทุกปี เพราะสาเหตุจากการเพิ่มขึ้นของประชากร การขยายตัวทางเศรษฐกิจและอุตสาหกรรม นับเป็นปัญหาที่สำคัญของชุมชนซึ่งต้องได้รับการแก้ไข การกำจัดขยะโดยการเอาไปเผา ก็เป็นสาเหตุหนึ่งที่ทาให้เกิดมลพิษ เกิดแก๊ส ภาวะเรือนกระจก หรือภาวะโลกร้อน การกำจัดอีกทางหนึ่ง คือ การนำขยะไปฝัง แต่ต้องเป็นขยะที่สามารถย่อยสลายได้ และต้องใช้เวลานานพอสมควร
จากการสำรวจขยะในบ้านและในบริเวณโรงเรียน พบว่าขยะส่วนใหญ่เป็นขวดพลาสติก ดังนั้น คณะผู้จัดทำจึงคิดโครงงานกระถางจากขวดพลาสติกขึ้น เพื่อช่วยลดปัญหาขยะ ปัญหาภาวะโลกร้อน และยังเป็นการนำเอาของที่เหลือใช้มาทำให้มีค่า ให้เกิดประโยชน์ และทำให้ขยะคืนสู่สิ่งแวดล้อมที่ดีได้อีกด้วย

วัตถุประสงค์ของโครงงาน
1. เพื่อประดิษฐ์กระถางจากขวดพลาสติก
2. เพื่อใช้เวลาว่างให้เกิดประโยชน์
3. เพื่อฝึกสมาธิและความคิดสร้างสรรค์
4. เพื่อประหยัดพื้นที่ในการเพาะปลูก
