ความเป็นมาและความสำคัญของปัญหา
ปัจจุบันการพัฒนาของเทคโนโลยีต่างๆเพิ่มมากขึ้นรวมถึงการพัฒนาของ ระบบสื่อสารที่เป็นไปอย่างรวดเร็ว ทันสมัย สะดวกสบายโดยการสื่อสารคือ การส่งสารไปยังผู้รับสารมีตัวกลางในการสื่อสารคืออุปกรณ์สื่อสาร เนื่องจากระบบสื่อสารได้พัฒนาอุปกรณ์สื่อสารจึงพัฒนาตามไปด้วยและการพัฒนานี้มีปัจจัยหลายอย่างหลายสาเหตุ สาเหตุแรกคือความต้องการของผู้บริโภคที่อยากที่จะรับ-ส่งข้อมูลหรือสารให้รวดเร็วขึ้นสะดวกสบายมากขึ้น และสาเหตุอื่นๆ ดังเช่น การแจ้งข่าวสาร แจ้งความ เรียกรถพยาบาล หรือติดต่อกันในยามฉุกเฉินได้ง่ายมากขึ้น นอกจากโทรศัพท์ที่เราใช้ติดต่อกันในปัจจุบันยังมีเครื่องมือสื่อสารชนิดอื่นๆอีก ดังเช่น จดหมาย เป็นตัวกลางการสื่อสารขั้นพื้นฐานเรียกได้ว่าเป็นยุคแรกเริ่มของการสื่อสารเลยทีเดียว เพราะในสมัยอดีตได้ใช้การส่งจดหมายเป็นการติดต่อผู้อื่น แทนการไปหาที่บ้านเพื่อลดรายจ่ายในการติดต่อเดินทางและสะดวกสบายมากขึ้น แต่ยังไม่ใช่แค่นั้นมนุษย์ได้พัฒนาเครื่องมือสื่อสารให้ทันสมัยมากยิ่งขึ้นจนทำให้เกิดเครื่องมือสื่อสารชนิดหนึ่งที่เรียกว่าโทรเลข ซึ่งในอดีตโทรเลขได้ชื่อว่าเป็นเครื่องมือสื่อสารที่ทันสมัยเลยทีเดียว โดยการใช้งานคือจะส่งข้อความสั้นๆ

สาเหตุที่ผู้จัดทำได้จัดทำโครงงานเรื่อง การศึกษาการสื่อสารและเครื่องมือสื่อสารใน พ.ศ.2540 ถึงพ.ศ.2557 ในประเทศไทย เพราะว่า ต้องการรู้ว่าปัจจุบันมีการสื่อสารแบบใดบ้าง แล้วมีเครื่องมือใดที่ใช้ ในการสื่อสารได้บ้าง ซึ่งปัจจุบัน เครื่องมือที่ใช้ในการสื่อสารนั้นมีมากมายหลายชนิด มีทั้งรุ่นเก่า รุ่นใหม่ ที่ยังนิยมใช้กันอยู่มากมาย เช่น โทรศัพท์มือถือ ซึ่งโทรศัพท์มือถือเป็นเครื่องมือสื่อสารที่มีการพัฒนามากที่สุด โดยเฉพาะโทรศัพท์มือถือของบริษัท Apple Samsung และเครื่องมือการสื่อสารที่มีการพัฒนามากที่สุดคือ โทรศัพท์มือถือ และโทรศัพท์มือถือก็ยังคงพัฒนาต่อไปเรื่อยๆ
