§ภาษาถิ่น[แก้]
ภาษาถิ่นของจังหวัดภูเก็ตเป็นภาษาถิ่นใต้ที่ไม่เหมือนถิ่นอื่นในภาคใต้ โดยจะมีสำเนียงภาษาจีนฮกเกี้ยนและภาษามลายูปนอยู่มาก ดังนั้นภาษาถิ่นภูเก็ตจึงมีเอกลักษณ์เฉพาะตัว พบได้เฉพาะแถบภูเก็ตและพังงาเท่านั้น ในอดีตนั้นชาวพื้นเมืองที่อาศัยอยู่ในภูเก็ตนั้นส่วนใหญ่ล้วนเป็นชาวจีนอพยพมาจากมณฑลฮกเกี้ยน เมื่อเข้ามาอาศัยอยู่ในภูเก็ตแล้วก็ได้นำเอาวัฒนธรรมต่าง ๆ มากมายเข้ามาใช้ หนึ่งในนั้นก็คือ ภาษา ซึ่งในยุคแรก ๆ นั้นได้ติดต่อสื่อสารกันด้วยภาษาจีนฮกเกี้ยน ต่อมามีการค้าขายมากขึ้นต้องติดต่อกับต่างชาติมากขึ้น ชาวจีนฮกเกี้ยนบางส่วนก็ไปมาหาสู่กับปีนัง มาเลเซียบ้าง มีการค้าขายแร่ดีบุกต่าง ๆ มากขึ้น ทำให้ภาษามลายูหรือภาษามาเลย์เริ่มเข้ามาผสมปนเข้าด้วยกันกับภาษาฮกเกี้ยน ทำให้เกิดเป็นภาษาที่ผสมสำเนียงเข้าด้วยกัน เป็นภาษาที่ใช้กันอย่างแพร่หลายในภูเก็ตและใกล้เคียง ภาษาฮกเกี้ยนในภูเก็ตนั้นปัจจุบันยังคงมีใช้อยู่เพียงแต่สำเนียงอาจจะเพี้ยนไปจากภาษาฮกเกี้ยนเดิมบ้าง เพื่อปรับให้เข้ากับการออกเสียงของคนภูเก็ต ซึ่งใกล้เคียงกับภาษาฮกเกี้ยนที่ใช้กันในปีนัง มาเลเซีย หรือสิงคโปร์ เนื่องจากมีการปรับเสียงให้เข้ากับสัทอักษรการออกเสียงของคนภูเก็ต บางคำในภาษาฮกเกี้ยนจึงไม่เหมือนกันภาษาฮกเกี้ยนแท้ของจีน แต่ก็ใกล้เคียง นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่าระบบไวยากรณ์ที่ใช้นั้นบ้างก็ยืมมากจากภาษาฮกเกี้ยนด้วย ภาษาภูเก็ตบ้างก็เรียก ภาษาบาบ๋า
