โครงงานการสำรวจชนิดมะรุมในเขตชุมชน ตำบลโพนแพง อำเภอธาตุพนม จังหวัดนครพนม มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อสำรวจชนิดมะรุมในเขตพื้นที่ชุมชน บ้านโพนแพง บ้านห้วยทราย บ้านตาลกุด บ้านโนนสมบูรณ์ และบ้านยางเดี่ยว ตำบลโพนแพง อำเภอธาตุพนม จังหวัดนครพนม โดยทำการสำรวจตั้งแต่เดือนธันวาคม 2556 – เดือนมีนาคม 2557 พบต้นมะรุมทั้งหมด 56 ต้น โดยบ้านโพนแพงพบ 21 ต้น บ้านห้วยทรายพบ 5 ต้น บ้านตาลกุดพบ 24 ต้น บ้านโนนสมบูรณ์พบ 2 ต้น บ้านยางเดี่ยวพบ 4 ต้น มะรุมที่พบมีเพียงชนิดเดียว คือ Moringa olifera Lam เท่านั้น ความหนาแน่นของประชากรมะรุมที่พบในแต่ละหมู่บ้านดังนี้ บ้านโพนแพง 0.084 ต้น/ไร่ บ้านห้วยทราย 0.036 ต้น/ไร่ บ้านโนนสมบูรณ์ 0.019 ต้น/ไร่ บ้านตาลกุด 0.133 ต้น/ไร่ และบ้านยางเดี่ยว 0.019 ต้น/ไร่
