9 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ.2554 ผู้สื่อข่าวรายงานว่า จากกรณีที่กระทรวงสาธารณสุข ประเทศกัมพูชา ได้แถลงเมื่อวันที่ 4 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ.2554 ว่า กำลังหาสาเหตุที่ทำให้เด็ก 66 คน โดยส่วนใหญ่มีอายุ 2-3 ขวบ ล้มป่วย และเสียชีวิตจำนวน 64 คน ทั้งนี้เด็กที่เสียชีวิตนั้น ล้วนมีอาการไข้สูง ระบบประสาท และระบบหายใจถูกทำลาย และเสียชีวิตภายใน 24 ชั่วโมง หลังจากนำตัวส่งโรงพยาบาล
