ความเป็นมา

นิยมเล่นกันในจังหวัดกรุงเทพฯ และธนบุรีในสมัยเก่ามาก่อน แล้วจึงแพร่หลายไปอย่างจังหวัดต่างๆ จากหลักฐานพบว่ามีการเล่นแล้วในรัชกาลที่ ๕ แห่งกรุงรัตนโกสินทร์ ดังปรากฏหลักฐานว่ามีการเรียนการสอนวิชากายกรรมให้แก่นักเรียนนายร้อย เมื่อพ.ศ. ๒๔๔๙ โดยมีการสอนการเล่นเกมและกีฬาพื้นเมืองไทยหลายชนิดด้วยกัน หนึ่งในนั้นปรากฏชื่อกีฬาวิ่งช้อนมะนานวด้วย นอกจากนี้ยังพบว่ามีการเล่นกีฬาที่คล้ายคลึงกับกีฬาช้อนมะนาวคือ มีการเล่นกีฬาที่ใช้ช้อนเป็นเครื่องมือในการเล่นอื่นๆด้วย ดังปรากฏในร.ศ. ๑๓๐ ในการกรีฑานักเรียนของโรงเรียนต่างๆ ในเมืองภูเก็ต เล่นได้ทุกโอกาสที่ว่าง

อุปกรณ์การเล่น
