วัดเจดีย์หลวงวรวิหาร อยู่ที่ถนนพระปกเกล้า วัดนี้ตั้งอยู่ใจกลางเมืองเชียงใหม่พอดี ประดิษฐานเจดีย์ใหญ่ที่สุดในจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ สร้างขึ้นในรัชกาลพระเจ้าแสนเมืองมากษัตริย์องค์ที่ 7 แห่งราชวงศ์มังราย (พ.ศ.1913-1954) ต่อมาพระยาติโลกราชโปรดให้ช่างขยายเจดีย์ให้สูงและกว้างกว่าเดิม แล้วเสร็จเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2024 และอัญเชิญพระแก้วมรกตมาประดิษฐานระหว่าง พ.ศ.2011-2091 นานถึง 80 ปี ต่อมาในสมัยพระนางจิระประภา ได้เกิดแผ่นดินไหวเมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2088 ทำให้ยอดเจดีย์หักโค่นลง ปัจจุบันเจดีย์มีความสูงคงเหลือ 40.8 เมตร ฐานกว้างด้านละ 60 เมตร

วิหารหลวงของวัดนี้เจ้าคุณอุบาลีคุณปรมาจารย์ (สิริจันทะเถระ) และเจ้าแก้วนวรัฐเป็นผู้สร้างขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. 2471 หน้าประตูทางเข้าวิหาร มีบันไดนาคเลื้อยงดงามยิ่ง ใช้หางเกี่ยวกระหวัดขึ้นไปเป็นซุ้มประตูวิหาร นาคคู่นี้เป็นฝีมือเก่าแก่ที่มีมาตั้งแต่เดิมได้ชื่อว่าเป็นนาคที่สวยที่สุดของภาคเหนือ
ในวัดเจีย์หลวงนี้ยังมี เสาอินทขิล หรือ เสาหลักเมือง สร้างขึ้นเมื่อครั้งพ่อขุนเม็งรายมหาราชสร้างเมืองเชียงใหม่ เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 1839 ประดิษฐานอยู่ในวิหารจตุรมุขทรงไทยหลังเล็กๆ เสาอินทขิลนี้สร้างด้วยไม้ซุงต้นใหญ่ ฝังอยู่ใต้ดิน ทุกปีในวันแรม 12 ค่ำเดือน 8 (เหนือ) หรือประมาณเดือนพฤษภาคมจะมีงานเรียกว่า เข้าอินทขิล เป็นการฉลองหลักเมือง
