ประวัติโดยย่อ โรงเรียนดำรงศาสน์วิทยา ก่อตั้งในปี พ.ศ. 2509 โดยผู้เริ่มก่อตั้งคือ นายเหม ซื่อตรง และมีโต๊ะครูก้อเดช กำพวน เป็นเจ้าของ ในระยะการก่อตั้ง ได้จัดระบบการเรียนการสอนแบบปอเนาะ เรียนในวิชาศาสนาอิสลามเพียงอย่างเดียว ต่อมาได้พัฒนาปรับปรุงการเรียนการสอนแบบปอเนาะมาเป็นการเรียนการสอนในระบบโรงเรียน ส่วนในระบบปอเนาะยังมีการจัดการเรียนการสอน โดยจัดเฉพาะในช่วงกลางคืนสำหรับ นักเรียนประจำ

ตั้งแต่เปลี่ยนสภาพจากปอเนาะมาเป็นโรงเรียน โรงเรียนดำรงศาสน์วิทยา มีการพัฒนาตามลำดับดังนี้

- ปี พ.ศ. 2545 โรงเรียนได้รับอนุญาตให้ใช้หลักสูตรอิสลาม โดยเพิ่มชั้นมัธยมศึกษาตอนปลาย ในวิชาศาสนาขยายหลักสูตรจากหลักสูตรอิบตีดาอีย์ มาเป็นเอี๊ยะห์ตาดี และซานาวี
- ปี พ.ศ. 2546 - ปัจจุบัน โรงเรียนดำรงศาสน์วิทยาเปิดทำการเรียนการสอนภาคสามัญในระดับชั้น ม.1-ม.6 ตามหลักสูตรการศึกษาขั้นพื้นฐาน และหลักสูตรอิสลามศึกษา จัดอยู่ในประเภทโรงเรียนเอกชนสอนศาสนาควบคู่สามัญ มี นายสอเฟตร กำพวน เป็นผู้รับใบอนุญาต นายหัสบุญเหลาะ กำพวน เป็นผู้จัดการโรงเรียน และมี นายมูฮำหมัดฮาดีย์ กำพวน เป็นผู้อำนวยการโรงเรีย
