งานวิจัยนี้มีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อจัดทำและประยุกต์ใช้ระบบสารสนเทศทางภูมิศาสตร์ สำหรับวิเคราะห์เส้นทางการเก็บขนมูลฝอยและโซนในการจัดเก็บมูลฝอยของเทศบาลเมืองมหาสารคาม อำเภอเมืองมหาสารคาม จังหวัดมหาสารคาม โดยใช้เทคนิคในการวิเคราะห์ คือ Network analysis ซึ่งเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของโปรแกรม Arc GIS เพื่อวิเคราะห์เส้นทางการเก็บขนมูลฝอยและวิเคราะห์โซนในการจัดเก็บมูลฝอยขึ้นมาใหม่ ซึ่งมีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อวิเคราะห์เส้นทางที่มีระยะทางที่สั้นกว่าโดยจะทำให้สามารถลดค่าใช้จ่ายในการดำเนินงานด้านการเก็บขนมูลฝอย
