อาเซียน คือ สมาคมประชาชาติแห่งเอเชี

อาเซียน คือ สมาคมประชาชาติแห่งเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ (Association of South East AsianNations หรือ ASEAN) โดยการจัดตั้งในครั้งแรกมีจุดประสงค์เพื่อ ส่งเสริมและร่วมมือในเรื่องสันติภาพ,ความมั่นคง, เศรษฐกิจ, องค์ความรู้, สังคมวัฒนธรรม บนพื้นฐานความเท่าเทียมกันและผลประโยชน์ร่วมกันของประเทศสมาชิก

โดย อาเซียน ได้ก่อตั้งขึ้นโดย ปฏิญญากรุงเทพ (Bangkok Declaration) เมื่อวันที่ 8 สิงหาคม พ.ศ.2510 โดยมีผู้ร่วมก่อตั้ง 5 ประเทศคือ

1.ไทย โดย พันเอก ถนัด คอมันตร์ (รัฐมนตรีต่างประเทศ)
2.สิงคโปร์ โดย นายเอส ราชารัตนัม (รัฐมนตรีต่างประเทศ)
3.มาเลเซีย โดย ตุน อับดุล ราชัก บิน ฮุสเซน (รองนายกรัฐมนตรี รัฐมนตรีกลาโหมและรัฐมนตรีกระทรวงพัฒนาการแห่งชาติ)
4.ฟิลิปปินส์ โดย นายนาซิโซ รามอส (รัฐมนตรีต่างประเทศ)
5.อินโดนีเซีย โดย นายอาดัม มาลิก (รัฐมนตรีต่างประเทศ)

ต่อมาได้มีประเทศต่างๆ เข้าร่วมเป็นสมาชิกเพิ่มเติมอีก5สมาชิก คือ
- 8 มกราคม 2527 บรูไนดารุสซาลาม,
- 28 กรกฎาคม 2538 เวียดนาม
- 23 กรกฎาคม 2540 ลาว และ พม่า
- 30 เม.ย. 2542 กัมพูชา ให้ปัจจุบันมีสมาชิกอาเซียนทั้งหมด 10 ประเทศ
