จึงได้จัดทำร่างแผนพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวแห่งชาติพ.ศ. 2555–2559 เสนอต่อที่ประชุมคณะกรรมการนโยบายการท่องเที่ยวแห่งชาติพิจารณา โดยมีวัตถุประสงค์เพื่อฟื้นฟูและกระตุ้นภาคการท่องเที่ยวให้ขยายตัวและเกิดความยั่งยืน และเพื่อเร่งรัดและสร้างศักยภาพในการหารายได้จากการท่องเที่ยว เพื่อพัฒนาการท่องเที่ยวของประเทศไทยให้มีความพร้อมทั้งด้านคุณภาพการแข่งขัน เกิดการสร้างรายได้ และการกระจายรายได้ควบคู่ไปกับการพัฒนาที่ยั่งยืน
